About us

We make it as easy as walk in, push button, start meeting.

Sean Begley

In 1989 Sean was watching an episode of “The Wonder Years” where Kevin Arnold decided to work the spotlight for the school play in order to be involved but not on stage. This inspired a young Sean to pursue what would eventually become a lifelong love of the arts, technology, lighting, and helping other people look their best. After over twenty years in theatrical lighting Sean left the booth to work in festival and event management. Everything from elementary school auctions to large multi-stage outdoor music festivals Sean continued to help others look their best while staying off the stage. And now here he is, putting the same focus into helping bring people together through new technologies.

When he’s not hiding out in the booth, Sean lives in South King County with his family. Boating, fishing (poorly), and generally loving everything the great Pacific Northwest has to offer.

Ira McCully

Ira McCully has had a long and storied career in live events technology and management. Starting as a technician about town working in various regional theatres in Northern California, he moved to the Pacific Northwest in 2007 to quickly become the “Guy who makes the set be there”.

He has worn many hats in the theatre and live sound world. He’s worked as a technical director, lighting technician, sound engineer, master electrician, sound designer, mobile stage operator and even just a stage monkey in venues from Santa Barbara Civic Light Opera, Actor’s Playhouse in Miami, Foothill Theatre Company in Nevada City, Tahoe Shakespeare Company, Village Theatre in Issaquah & Everett and Teatro Zinzanni. He’s had the pleasure of running live sound for touring acts such as Kenny Loggins, Dick Dale and the Deltones, and Jerry Lee Lewis.

He’s now taking this focus and drive to ensure people’s meetings and events are perfect to the conference room. He’s the technical wizard connecting Zoom to Teams to Google to the phone in a pocket. All while making it look like it was no work at all

Our Story

From humble beginnings in regional theatre, our founders Sean and Ira have a combined nearly 45 years meeting technology experience. Ira and Sean started their careers in technical theatre before meeting while working for a local events company. They took their passion for engaging theatre and applied it to the world of meetings, events, and festivals. Sean went on to create Travelling Buddha Production, specializing in festival staging, lighting, and production. Ira worked closely with Sean and eventually took over daily operations when TBP was folded into another local stage company. Most recently they worked together in the more subdued but still dynamic world of downtown conferences. With the needs of the events world having changed as dramatically as they have, Sean and Ira came together to create Remotely Close. By leveraging technology to apply their focus, experience, and expertise to the best online meeting experience possible, Sean and Ira hope to help bring people together to engage remotely the same way they did in darkened theaters.
